What hours does the nursery open?
Rainbow Day Nurseries, Hayes Road, Petts Wood, Langdon Road offer full day care from 7.30 am to 6.30 pm.
We offer the following sessions:
- 8 am to 6 pm (10 hours per day)
- 7.30 am to 6 pm (10.50 hours per day)
- 8am to 6.30 pm (10.50 hours per day)
- 7.30 am to 6.30 pm (11 hours per day)
Rainbow Day Nursery, Forest School operates from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm (10 hours per day).
We only offer full days, however, parents are able to drop off or collect their child at any time during the day.
Rainbow Day Nursery, Pre-school Cudham operates term time. We operate from 8.00 am - 4.00 pm, with morning and afternoon session available.
Does the nursery open all year round?
Yes, the nursery is open for 51 weeks of the year. We close on Christmas Eve or the last week day before Christmas Eve, and are closed until the New Year this is 3 to 4 working days. In addition, we close on Bank Holidays. The total closure days never exceeds 5 working days. Cudham is the only exception and operates term time only.
Do you have a waiting list?
Yes, we currently operate a waiting list for each nursery, and we do not charge to go onto our waiting list. To fill out a waiting list enquiry form, please visit the individual nursery page from here.
When are the main intakes?
September is our main intake, however, subject to availability places may be offered throughout the year.
Can I give preference to which days?
We ask parents to indicate their preferred day and we aim to offer these, however, this may not always be the case.
What is the minimum number of days my child can attend nursery?
There is a minimum of two days that children must attend.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)?
The Early Years Foundation Stage or EYFS is a framework of learning, development and welfare for children in the age range from birth to the August after their fifth birthday. This is implemented in all registered early years settings. We are required to meet the learning, development and welfare requirements in the EYFS statutory requirements.
How do I know my child will be safe in the nursery?
Rainbow Day Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have robust safer recruitment and all our staff have been DBS checked and we update our systems regularly to ensure the ongoing suitability of staff. All staff attend safeguarding training to ensure that procedures are in place to identify signs and indicators of abuse. Staff are vigilant and are fully aware of risks and hazzard and act on them immediately. Systems are in place to monitor and risk assess the environment.
Fees & Funding
How do you calculate the fees?
Our fees are calculated and charged on a calendar monthly/annualised amount. This allows parents to budget for their monthly outgoings more effectively.
Weekly fees x 51 weeks year / 12 equal payments
Example:
£240 x 51 weeks year = £1062.50 per month
All fees are due on the 1st of the month in advance.
What’s included in my fees?
The following are all included in your fees:
- All meals (Breakfast, morning & afternoon snack, 2 course lunch and high tea)
- Nappies, wipes
- Drinks (Except formula milk)
- Sun creams & lotions
- Extracurricular activities such as tennis, multi-sports gymnastics and dance sessions
- Trips and visits
Are there any discounts applied?
Yes, we offer the following to support parents:
- 10% discount for all full time children
- 5% discount for all sibling ( discount available for one child per family)
- Funding to be applied flexibly maximizing the amount of hours to be claimed for all families.
Do you accept childcare vouchers and Tax-Free Childcare payments?
Yes, we accept childcare vouchers from a range of providers, and we can assist parents in setting these up if necessary.

Do you offer Early Years funded places for 2-, 3- and 4-year-old children for 15 and 30 hours funding?
Yes, we do offer Early Years funded places for 2-, 3- and 4-year-old children for 15 and 30 hours funding. To qualify for the funded places, your child needs to attend a minimum of 2 days per week. Our funding is stretched over 51 weeks of the year.
Do I have to pay a deposit, and when do I need to pay it by?
Yes, we do require a deposit to secure your child’s place at the nursery, and the deposit is usually calculated as one month’s fees. This is retained until your child leaves the nursery and returned in full provided all fees are paid up to date when leaving.
Do I have to pay for the nursery when it is closed for Bank Holidays or if my child is sick or on holiday?
We require payment of fees in full each month, even when your child is sick or on holidays.
The monthly nursery fees are calculated with Bank Holidays included and pro-rated in the fees throughout the year.
Starting Nursery and Settling In
What happens when my child starts at nursery? Do you have an induction or settling in sessions?
Yes, we do offer settling in sessions at no cost. These usually take place in the weeks prior to your child starting nursery.
Will my child need to bring anything with them when they start Nursery?
When you confirm your child’s place, you will be given a Welcome Pack that outlines all the items you will need to take with you.
Communication
How does the nursery record my child’s progress?
We communicate via an app for smartphones or other devices. This shows all the observations carried out on your child and other information relating to your child such as sleep, meals, nappy changing and finance. This is updated daily.
What is a key worker system?
A Key Worker is a named member of staff with a special relationship and responsibility for a small group of children. A Key Worker helps those children feel safe and cared for. Your child will be assigned a named member of staff when they start. This is to help ensure that every child’s care is tailored to meet their individual needs. This person will help the child settle into the room and become familiar with the setting, and they will develop a bond with the child and the parents/carers.
What is the ratio of children to adults?
The children to adult ratios are as follows:
Under 2 years: 1:3
2 to 3 years: 1:4
Over 3 years: 1:8
Food and Dietary Requirements
My child has special dietary requirements, would you be able to cater for that?
Yes, we offer a range of food and menus to cater for children with special dietary needs. Our chefs work with parents to facilitate the child’s individual needs.
We are a nut free zone.
Illness and Medication
My child is unwell, what are the nursery guidelines?
At Rainbow Day Nursery we follow guidelines on infection control from Public Health England and the NHS. Please see here
What if my child requires medication during the day?
The nursery staff will administer prescription only medication to your child in line with our policy and procedures for administration of medication.
