Nursery Cook Hayes Road

The nursery cook will  be responsible for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, maintaining kitchen procedures, risk assessments and records. They will ensure that the kitchen is compliant with registration and legislative requirements at all times. An expectation that the cook to have a secure awareness of allergy requirements and that highest standards of health and safety apply and are followed, maintaining a safe and secure environment and  preventing cross contamination of food within the kitchen area.

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic and organised cook  to  organise a suitable rotating menu, order, store, prepare, cook and serve healthy and nutritionally balanced meals for children aged 4 months – 5 years, including children who have specific dietary or cultural requirements and allergies.

Our safeguarding system is underpinned by a range of policies and procedures which encourage and promote safe working practice across the organisation. Skills and knowledge

  • To prepare and cook nutritionally balanced meals appropriate for under-fives in accordance with the nursery’s nutritional guidance for the under-fives.
  • To contribute ideas to menu planning ensuring the children receive a healthy nutritionally balanced, multi-cultural diet.
  • To maintain a safe, clean, and healthy kitchen environment
  • To regulate kitchen stock control and collate food purchasing orders as appropriate.
  • To maintain accurate records regarding temperature controls etc.
  • To meet health and safety and environmental health requirements at all times.
  • To liaise with nursery staff regarding children’s specific dietary requirements.
  • To have a full knowledge of the dietary requirements of children within the setting
  • To keep up to date with current good practice. To contribute to the creation of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children
  • To deliver food to the individual rooms on time
  • To be aware of Rainbow Day Nursery’s policies and procedures and ensure these are adhered to
  • To contribute to the effective recording and resolution of any complaints or investigations, ensuring confidentiality at all times
  • To be professional and a good role model to the children and other staff members, at all times
  • To work flexibly as part of the larger team, assisting and supporting colleagues wherever required, to ensure the smooth running of the company
  • To attend reasonable out-of-working-hours activities, including training, staff meetings, and special events
  • To respect and value all colleagues, children, and parents, encouraging a positive and diverse working environment

Requirements

  • Food and hygiene Level 2 qualification as minimum
  • Experience of professional cookery or equivalent
  • Hold a food allergy awareness certificate or be prepared to gain one
  • Some knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
  • An enthusiastic, positive attitude
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work in partnership with parents.
  • Comply with all Rainbow Day Nurseries’ policies and procedures.
  • Hold an appropriate first aid at work qualification or be willing to undertake one.
